Women who are undergoing chemotherapy for breast cancer have a variety of ongoing recovery issues, both physical and emotional. This can be a time of pain and fear, and a special tote bag created just for this woman, given by other women, can make a positive impact on her spirit and comfort. With the assistance of grants and donations, our club has filled lovely tote bags with contents which include physical comfort items and items to provide spiritual support as well. We have, so far, distributed approximately 2000 bags to women attending chemotherapy clinics in neighboring underserved areas.
We have received wonderful feedback from recipients and caregivers, who feel that the contents have provided patients with many items they needed going through chemotherapy. They also appreciated the personal notes that were contained within the tote, wishing them well.
Joanne’s Story
“I am continuously so thankful for all the blessings I have received during what is often times a very stressful and lonely health scare. I know I am surrounded by love and support and that everyone doesn’t have that luxury. When I received the Breast Cancer Comfort Bag from my dear friend and member of Soroptimist International Manhattan Beach, I was again amazed at all the resources and outpouring of love and thoughtfulness from people I don’t even know. As I sat in my chemo chair, opening the bag, I quickly donned the soft turban to warm my almost bald head. They had really thought of everything! I was even more surprised to learn that the group puts together hundreds of bags each year and distributes them to chemo and radiation centers for women who might not have the kind of support I have. This anonymous gift, with the beautiful custom handwritten note, is a welcome ray of hope during an otherwise time of overwhelm. Please join me in supporting this effort by making a small donation that will add up to many days of comfort for women in need.”
